3 day chair making course with Alex Webster, 13-15 March 2026

For this exciting new course I’ve teamed up with the talented chairmaker Alex Webster (@billsyards on instagram).

If you’ve ever felt the longing to make a chair and didn’t know where to begin, this 3 day course could be for you. You will experience the joy of shaping wood with sharp hand tools using traditional chairmaking techniques. You will come away with a beautifully hand made chair that is very comfortable and practical piece of furniture that will be treasured in any home. The chair will be made from locally sourced Ash sawmilled and air dried by Alex. Chair parts will be supplied roughly cut out allowing the chair to be made in just 3 days. During the course we will cover the fundamentals of chair design and what makes one comfortable. The chair you will make is inspired by a chair by Chris Schwarz, Lost Art Press.

All materials and tools are supplied.

Some woodwork experience is useful but not necessary.

Includes a wholesome lunches and refreshments

9:30am- 5:30pm (may run later on Sunday)

Set in a beautiful off-grid timber framed barn with a roaring fire and great company, surrounded by woodlands on the edge of Dartmoor.

Weekend courses require 4 weeks written notice (email) to cancel or reschedule and the course cost will be refunded. A £30 admin fee will be deducted from the full amount for each booking.

Less than 4 weeks from the beginning of the course the booking is not refundable unless your place can be filled the original place is filled; in which case the full amount will refunded. a £30 admin fee will be deducted from the full amount for each booking.
